Sandisfield Select Board Tables Fire Bunk Room Policy, Weighs SFDI's Surprise Station Offer

SANDISFIELD — December 15, 2025 — Sandisfield Select Board received a surprise offer from the Sandisfield Fire Department Inc. to sell Station 2 at the town-approved price of $560,000, but with a condition that the board rescind its letters of disassociation from the organization. The letter, signed by SFDI President Dan Andrus and delivered just 30 minutes before the December 15 meeting, also calls for meetings between SFDI directors and fire, police, and ambulance leadership before any broader discussion with the Select Board. Board members expressed skepticism, noting SFDI had repeatedly declined to fund major departmental purchases, and Town Manager Janey said an updated property appraisal was due Thursday, with an executive session planned for the following Monday to determine next steps. The board also unanimously approved a letter to the state Department of Conservation and Recreation requesting that historic timbers from a condemned Cold Spring Road barn be donated to the Blanchard family, whose circa-1770 barn burned to the ground on Thanksgiving Day, and tabled a proposed fire station live-in volunteer policy pending completion of the station acquisition.
